Warren Police and 72 Hour Booking Process

The Warren Police Department is at 29900 Civic Center Blvd, Warren, MI 48093. You can reach them at 586-574-4700 or by email at police@warrenpd.org. Warren is the third largest city in Michigan and sits in Macomb County. The police handle a high volume of arrests each year, and the booking process starts at the Warren City Jail.

When Warren police make an arrest, the person goes to the city jail for temporary holding. This is where the initial booking takes place. Staff log the person's name, date of birth, charges, and other details into the system. But Warren's jail is not a long-term facility. After processing, most people get transferred to the Macomb County Jail at 43565 Elizabeth Rd. in Mt. Clemens. The county jail is the main holding facility for all of Macomb County, with a capacity of roughly 1,200 inmates. Once the transfer happens, the person shows up in the Macomb County inmate search system. So if you are trying to find someone who was arrested in Warren, start with the county jail search tool rather than calling the city jail.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office runs the jail. Sheriff Anthony M. Wickersham oversees operations. For jail questions, call the info line at 586-307-9474. For bond info, try 586-307-9612.

The best way to check on a Warren booking is through the Macomb County Inmate Locator. This tool is free. It lets you search by name and shows current inmates at the county jail. Since Warren transfers most people to Macomb County after booking, this is where you will find them. The system shows the person's name, charges, bond amount, and booking date. Mugshots are also posted for many inmates because Macomb County is one of the larger counties that puts booking photos online.

The Macomb County inmate search page is shown here. You can look up anyone who has been booked into the Macomb County Jail, including those arrested by Warren Police.

Call 800-770-7657 if you want to search by phone instead.

Note: Warren City Jail is a temporary holding facility, so check the Macomb County Inmate Locator for current custody status after a Warren arrest.

Warren 72 Hour Booking Records Request

You can get Warren booking records through a FOIA request. Michigan's Freedom of Information Act at MCL § 15.231 gives everyone the right to public records. Booking records are public. To request them, write to the Warren Police Department at 29900 Civic Center Blvd, Warren, MI 48093. You can also email police@warrenpd.org with your request. Include the person's full name and the approximate date of arrest. Under MCL § 15.233, you do not need to explain why you want the records.

The department has five business days to respond. That is the rule under MCL § 15.235. They can take ten more days if the request is complex. Fees for copies run $0.10 to $0.25 per page. Labor gets billed at the rate of the lowest paid clerk who can do the work. If the total goes past $50, expect a deposit request. Indigent requesters can get the first $20 waived up to two times a year under MCL § 15.234.

For county-level records, you can also file a FOIA request with Macomb County at 1 South Main St., 8th Floor, Mt. Clemens, MI 48043. The county maintains its own set of booking records from the jail.

What Warren Booking Records Include

A 72 hour booking record from a Warren arrest will list the full legal name of the person along with any aliases they gave at intake. The record includes date of birth, height, weight, and a physical description. Charges at the time of booking are listed, plus the bond amount and type. The arresting agency (Warren Police Department) shows up, and so does the date and time of intake.

Under MCL § 750.491, all official records are public property. They belong to the people of Michigan. Mugshots taken at booking are also public. The court in Detroit Free Press v. Oakland Cty. Sheriff confirmed that booking photos cannot be withheld on privacy grounds. If an office refuses to hand over a booking record without a valid exemption, MCL § 750.492 makes that a misdemeanor with a fine up to $500.

Michigan State Tools for Warren Records

If someone arrested in Warren ends up sentenced to state prison, the Michigan Department of Corrections tracks them through OTIS. This tool shows people under MDOC supervision in the last three years. It lists the facility, sentence dates, and parole info. OTIS does not cover county jail inmates or city jail holds, so it will not help with a fresh Warren booking. But if the case moves forward and the person goes to state prison, OTIS is how you follow them.

The OTIS search portal is shown below. You can look up state prisoners here, but for recent Warren arrests you should use the Macomb County inmate locator instead.
